Many policies do not cover properties that are unoccupied for 30 days or more and so you may need to cancel the existing policy and arrange a more suitable one. Executors/Attorneys/Deputies must ensure that there is suitable insurance cover in place for the property and should notify the insurer of the the policy holder’s death or when the homeowner vacates it. The fact that the property is empty must be covered by the policy and the conditions of the policy complied with. If there is no insurance in place then an empty property insurance policy should be taken out.

✓ check itMost insurers will require frequent property checks for the policy to remain valid and stipulate conditions in order for it to remain valid. Property Checking Cornwall will check properties however frequently you or the policy require. We also offer randomly timed visits - weekly, fortnightly, monthly as required but at different days or the week, or times of the day to limit any security breaches.
